Life Coach
If you’re under heavy stress at work (pic.1) and also obsessed with fitness (pic.2) you maybe need some life coatching (pic.3).
Here’s three illustrations I have done around those themes during last couple of weeks. For Anna, Finnish ladies’ magazine.

Noora ja nauravat tähdet

I just finished doing illustrations, cover design and layout for a book called Noora ja nauravat tähdet (Noora and the smiling stars) by Finnish author Tittamari Marttinen.

It’s a very nice book for young girls. Noora is a little girl who’s mother, the janitor of their house, falls from a tree while picking up apples, breaks her leg and has to stay in hospital for some time. Noora takes care of the house with her friends, finds an old film star, dreams about a dog and finally gets one (named Kuura).

I’m very happy with my works for the book. I’m specially pleased with the cover: I took my normal style a bit further by softening a backround (and parts of the foreground too) trying to make it look a little bit like a painting.

Hopefully Noora will have a whole series of books.

Pernod ad

expPernod-tausta

Four illustrators of my agency were asked to do illustrations for in-bar-ad-campaign of Pernod. They gave us quite free hands, within certain brand-concerning rules of course.

I did this piece about captain of a shipwreck floating towards a fire-erupting iceberg. The flying fish show hin the way and big wave is helping him to get there. I tried to give impression of refreshment, adventure, fairytale and a little danger.

This summer’s illustrations for Anna magazine

Sauna
Speaking nice
Borrowing money from friends
Daydreaming

It’s been a while since I posted anything here. Now it’s time to catch up.

Here’s some illustrations I have done for Anna magazine during last months.

First one is about worst midsummer memories. Midsummer is a big party time here in Finland and many people spend it with family and relatives, usually in the countryside. This woman had to go to sauna with the whole family of his new boyfriend, naked of course.

Second one is about the woman who speaks nice even though she has just divorced her unfaithful husbend.

Third one is about borrowing money from friends and possibly losing them because not paying back on time.

Fourth one is about importance of daydreaming.

Illustration about tooth whitening techniques. Client, Hyvä Terveys -magazine (~Good Healt), asked something with bunny or beaver. I used John William Waterhouse’s painting Echo and Narcissus as a starting point for this picture of narcissistic beaver.

Want to make my font?

Posted by on Jun 04 2009 | Older works, Typography

Gummi

szpace58

zitadel

I just found these typeface designs from my archives of unfinished projects. I don’t think they are anything super-special, but not too bad either. I would like to see them as a real font, I’m just too busy to go on with them.

Would you like to make them real? If yes, please contact me by email: janne at thissitesdomain, or use contact form . They need some letter design (mostly caps and numbers) and fontifying work, maybe even more.
I’m not too picky, but since these things need some design work I would like to see things you have already done (typefaces, illustrations or something else).
I can’t pay you. But if we deside to sell the fonts somewhere I’m happy to go with 50/50. My Name and Your Name as designers.

About fonts:

Gummi: Soft, candy-like typeface. In the picture there’s also a cornered version (those are the only letters I have drawn of it).
Spaze58: Could be used in some technical context, like sci-fi movie’s computer screen.
Zitadel: Basicly a version of Szpaze58, but has some elements in it that could make a different font. I think this needs more design work than other two.

All the letters are combined (with some modification) from some kind of modules.
Modules, and some different versions are in the file.
Most of the lower case letters are ready, but can be modified and or redrawn.
All caps have to be designed. And numbers in Gummi and Zitadel.
Freehand-files. I can copy-paste them to illustrator i you want.
I’m not sure if I have time to help, but I want to have a last word in the design.

I hope somebody gets interested.
