Death of a mother

I tried to strech my style a little bit with this illustration about a death of a mother for Anna magazine. Finnish words on the flag are the beginning of the song “Farewell Waltz”, the favorite song of the mother in the story.

End of the Relationship
I did this just before christmas holiday for Anna -magazine.  It’s about ending the relationship. I played a little bit with different strokes in Illustrator trying to get a hand drawn feeling.

CD cover: One Mint Tulip

Couple of weeks ago I heard my cousins band, One Mint Tulip, is in the studio recording material for an album. At that time I wanted to do something for free, something that’s not commissioned work for my normal kind of clients. So I called him and asked if I could design a cd cover for them. The band said yes and here’s a result.

First I thought that I’ll try to draw something in the style of great Paul Rogers but then went back to my own style (didn’t want to copy). Anyway, one of my favorite works of this year. I’m happy with the typography too though I was going to draw it by hand but couldn’t get the result I wanted and ended up using real fonts.

Album’s title is “Sivuraiteella”, Finnish for “On the Side Track”. I interpreted quite literally.

Band describes their music like this: “Imagine a 1960’s popjazz band playing a country song. Not necessarily authentic, but very real. Or the other way around? And all this with own songs and in Finnish. ”
