Here’s some images from the children book I illustrated in 2004: Possu Annikki, Ilves Ilomieli & Karhu Ilmari (Annikki the Pig, Ilomieli the Lynx & Ilmari the Bear), written by Aira Savisaari, published by Finland’s biggest publishing company WSOY.
Story takes place in ancient Finland, main characters make a silver blanket, vikings come and steal it and our heroes hunt it back.
Here’s some quite fresh (3 from last month, one a bit older) illustrations for finnish Anna-magazine.
Big one is about remorse, first small is about financial crisis (this lady doesn’t care so much yet), and two last ones are for a series of stories about crisis at home.

I’ll be in Zürich next week (october 15.-18.). There’s Illustrative 08 and our agency has an exhibition there. We have a theme, chockolade, and everybody created one 40cmx40cm piece for this show.
My picture (above) has a Moster rising from Choko Lake on Big Rock Candy Mountain with sweet little natives running scared.
There’s a competition in Illustrative and two girls from our agency have been selected to compete in animation cathegory: Jenni Rope and Ami Lindholm (from Tuhru collective). They’ll win.
I won an honorable mention in Mikkeli Illustration Triennale (in finnish: Mikkelin kuvitustriennale) this year. Before this time triennale has been a competition for already published illustrations. Now they gave a poem, Konerakkaus (=Machine Love) to illustrate and had a theme, combination of word and picture.
I decided to do something different from what i have done before and created a fake page of an old library book with poem printed and hand written comments of different readers. Readers (woman who’s husbend has left her, boring engineer and a school boy who had to read poem for school assignment) have commented the poem from their own experiences of life.
Last summer I joined Finnish illustration agency Napa Illustrations.
Ms. Marjo Granlund works day and night to get my illustrations published in best magazines, ads, etc. around the world. Napa represents also 13 other best Finnish illustrators.
Illustrator representation is new thing here in Finland. First two agencies, Napa and Pekka, started last year. Before that illustrators represented themselves. (Well, most of them still do since two companies cannot take them all under their wings.) I wanted to have agent because i want do more illustrations and less dealing with contracts and thinking about prices. Of course I hope this will bring me interesting jobs and, yes, money.
